The following provides a brief description of some of the agreements you may wish to consider:

 

Pre-installed Software, also known as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) System Builder Software

 

OEM System Builder licensing agreements are used by system builders, such as Strawberry Global Technology, to pre-install software on machines that they are supplying.  You would usually license in this way when you’re buying new PCs.

 

Microsoft Open Licence Programme (MOLP) Agreement

 

An Open Licence is a simple agreement that gives you permanent Microsoft software usage rights and which you pay for up-front.  If you have more than two PCs, it's an effective way to buy and license multiple copies of Microsoft software.

 

Open Value License (OVL) Agreement

 

An Open Value Licence agreement allows you to choose a minimum of five licences of any mix of products for your small or medium sized business.  Over the course of three years, you will receive the benefits of Software Assurance and the latest software upgrades, at a fixed annual rate.

 

Open Value License Subscription (OVLS) Agreement

 

An Open Value License Subscription agreement allows you to choose a minimum of five licences of any mix of products for your small or medium sized business.  Licences are rented, not owned, and you can reduce the number of licences as well as increase them at each anniversary of your agreement.  Over the course of three years, you will receive the benefits of Software Assurance and the latest software upgrades, at a fixed annual rate.

 

Microsoft Online Services Agreement

 

This is an outsourcing model where you rent licences on an annual subscription basis, and pay monthly.  Microsoft Online Services are hosted by Microsoft and sold through Strawberry Global Technology.  You can choose the balance of on-premise and hosted software that best suits your business.  Buying your licences in this way can help you avoid an upfront capital investment.  Prices start at £6.71 per user, per month.

 

Select Licence Agreement

 

Select Licence is a transactional agreement aimed at organisations that have mixed software requirements.  It’s based on a forecasting model where your licence usage is measured against a forecast that you provide.  Select agreements give you a flexible and cost-effective way to buy licences on a pay-as-you-go basis.

 

Select Plus License Agreement

 

Microsoft is currently offering a new way to buy, track, and manage your software licences called Select Plus.  Select Plus builds on the existing Select Licence programme with enhancements that give you better value and improved features.

 

Enterprise Agreement (EA)

 

An Enterprise Agreement offers significant discounts and a lower total cost of ownership if you want to standardise your desktop software.  Designed for organisations with 250 or more PCs, Enterprise agreements give you permanent usage rights plus additional product, support and maintenance benefits.  Enrolments under Enterprise Agreements offer attractive discounts and simpler purchasing models.

 

Enterprise Subscription Agreement (ESA)

 

An Enterprise Subscription Agreement offers significant discounts and a lower total cost of ownership if you want to standardise your desktop software.  Designed for organisations with 250 or more PCs, Enterprise agreements are based on renting, not owning licences and provide additional product maintenance benefits.  You can reduce the number of licences as well as increase them at each anniversary of your agreement.  The Enrolment for Core Infrastructure, available under Enterprise Subscriptions Agreements, offers attractive discounts and simpler licensing.
