Aeromobile

AeroMobile is a wholly owned subsidiary of Telenor. Headquartered in London with offices in Oslo, Dubai, and Singapore; AeroMobile is a GSM service provider for the aviation industry enabling airline passengers to use their mobile phones and devices in-flight at a cost of usage set by the passenger's existing mobile phone subscription.

The business challenge facing Aeromobile was server sprawl with non centralised storage and an IT Estate that was becoming increasingly complex to manage. They engaged with Strawberry Global Technology (SGT) to consolidate their server estate and to create a virtualised SAN infrastructure, that was easy to manage and would make significant costs savings for the business. The process began a capacity planning report and a survey where we defined which servers could be decommissioned and which applications were suitable for the new environment. We then consolidated the server environment and created a shared storage environment which simplified the back up process, improved ease of management, sped up the provision of new applications and reduced the electricity bills and carbon footprint.

The new infrastructure was built and pre configured at our main office with our engineers working alongside the Aeromobile IT guys. This allowed for SGT to effectively help the customer with skills transfer to this new solution. After the migration was complete the management tools were then put in place to effectively load balance and manage the virtual environment. The final component of the process was the additional support the customer wanted to help with this transition to a virtual environment.
